Soaring
Del Mar, Ca. March 2005

This seagull repetedly flew over me as if to say "shoot it, shoot the picture now!" --probably just trying to catch the tiny clams being pushed back in to the ocean by the receding rush of gentle waves.

Nature is the perfect architect. No detail goes unnoticed before by the divine creator.

Lake Hodges Dam
Escondido, Ca. March 2005

Here's an event the has the the San Diego area all excited. The amazing amount of rain we've had has caused the Lake Hodges dam to overflow. The last time this happened was 1993 so it's a significant event. Regardless of the extensive rain we've had in Southern California, we're still not out of the drought.

Color Cactus Field
Anza Borrego Desert, March 2005.

I was fascinated by the complexity of this scene. Here are the desert's delicate annual cool newcomers mixed in with the perennial hearty survivors of the intense heat that sears Anza Borrego in the summer months. Temperatures of 125degrees have been recorded in this national park.

...man, I like this camera. It's a Nikon 4300 Coolpix digital camera.

...yet another little dude hard at work...

Mustard field
Anza Borrego Desert, March 2005

I was actually speechless when I took this photograph... my favorite part of this image is seeing how the mountains in the background are holding back the storm.

Flower on quartz
Anza Borrego Desert, March 2005

I had to get on the ground and ignore the little blacks ants that started crawling on my hand and fingers while I was aligning the camera.

Beetle on desert daisy
Anza Borrego Desert, March 2005

While hiking back to my car, I spotted this little beetle hard at work. Regardless of how close I was to him, he resiliently continued about his task. It was unusual to me because other insects that I had attempted to photograph flew away when I got this close--maybe he couldn't.

Anza Borrego National Park is about 65 degrees in early March. It's perfect usually for most of the desert wildflowers.
